When we talk about designing spaces around the way people work, offices come to mind first. Production, on the other hand, is often reduced to a technical problem: fitting machines and flows inside a shed. But the factory is a workplace too, and there as well space enables or hinders.
The factory is a workplace
In a production building, space decides concrete things every day: the safety of routes, light, acoustics, the quality of the environments people spend time in. And it decides something less visible but increasingly important: the ability to attract and retain people. Finding people for production is as hard as finding a good profile for the office, and a designed, well-organised environment is a signal people can see.
Offices and production: the whole company
A company is not a head office plus a disconnected shed: it is a single organism, where the part that thinks and the part that produces talk to each other. Designing one while ignoring the other leaves half the value on the table.
The building is built around production
Space is not a neutral container to fill in afterwards: the building grows out of how the company works. In the Gualini Lamiere International project, the production hall is conceived around material handling – the overhead crane lifts up to 50 tonnes – and the offices are suspended above the production area, with direct views of the work. It is the same conviction that guides our method in offices: designing around real use, here applied to the company as a whole.
Projects that prove it
Marlegno, the Innovation Building Center in Calcinate; Gualini Lamiere, the production hub in Bolgare; BIG @ KilometroRosso, the industrial coworking space. Buildings where production, research and management live together in a single project. You can find them among our architecture projects.
What this means
Those who look only at the offices see half the company. We design the whole company – where people think and where they produce – as a single organism. This is what we mean when we say your space our project.
