Industrial architecture: the shed as a project built around production, sustainable and smart

For many, an industrial shed is a box: four walls, a roof, the lowest possible cost per square metre. It is a legitimate choice, but it is also a missed opportunity. A production building can be designed – around how a company works, with materials that last and systems that make it efficient.

The shed as a project

The difference between an ordinary shed and a designed building shows over the years: in consumption, in maintenance, in the comfort of the people who work there, in the ability to adapt as the company changes. Designing asks for a little more thought at the start, and returns much more later.

Built around production

The building starts from how things are produced. In Bolgare, for Gualini Lamiere International, the shed is designed around material handling: the structure supports an overhead crane that lifts up to 50 tonnes, and the offices are suspended above the production area. It is a building designed around the work it houses.

Sustainable, because it pays off

In Calcinate, for Marlegno, the Innovation Building Center is a 25,000 m² timber building, certified LEED Gold. Sustainability is not a label: it means lower consumption, more comfort, a property that is worth more and costs less to run. For an industrial company it is also an important chapter of its reputation.

Smart, because it is easier to manage

The same building is managed with a KNX home automation system that governs light, shading and climate control – a project awarded a prize in 2025. A smart building consumes only when needed, adapts to the seasons and to people, and gives the company back control over what it spends.

What this means

An industrial building is not just a cost to minimise: it is an investment to be designed. Built around production, sustainable and smart, it works for the company every day. This is what we mean when we say your space our project.
